Neva Small will return to the stage this spring in J2 Spotlight’s production of Milk & Honey, portraying Clara Weiss in Jerry Herman’s first Broadway book musical.
Originally opening on Broadway on October 10, 1961, Milk & Honey transports audiences to the early days of Israel, where a group of American widows arrive seeking adventure — and perhaps a second chance at love. Against the backdrop of a young nation finding its footing, the musical explores renewal, resilience, and the courage required to begin again.
With music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Don Appell, the score remains one of the show’s greatest strengths. As David Richards wrote in The New York Times, “When all else fails… there is always Mr. Herman’s score to soar to the rescue.”
The production is directed by Robert W. Schneider, with music direction by Harry Collins and choreography by Oren Korenblum.
